PAWsitive Life Consultation
Have you been thinking about getting a pet? Are you curious if, and how having a certain type of pet or breed of dog is best suited for your health and lifestyle needs?
I offer a unique wellness consultation. I call it the PAWsitive Life evaluation!
I offer this service at a significant sliding scale rate to help with a reduction to animals surrendered to shelters. A pet is a big responsibility, thus considering your family dynamics, time availability, personality factors, and more prior to acquiring your new pet can aid in a more successful lifetime commitment for your pet.
Companion animals offer many health benefits to humans.
I have conducted research in this area, and I am a big animal lover. I have extensive personal and professional experience with animals. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo. At CAL POLY SLO, I completed an undergraduate senior research project investigating the social changes of clients at a day treatment program for adults with serious mental illness (e.g., Schizophrenia) in relation to the inclusion of a canine at the day program. I also was a member of Cal Poly State University’s 2004 Thoroughbred Enterprise, which was a four-person Cal Poly Animal Science undergraduate team, we trained and sold yearling thoroughbreds for racing. For my postdoctoral research dissemination project at the San Diego VA Medical Center, I investigated the social and wellbeing impact of animal exposure and interaction with our US veterans.
For the PAWsitive Life evaluation, I will evaluate your current mental health needs, discuss your goals with having a pet, and assess your lifestyle to help you find the best pet match for you!
